Operation Mahadev

Two months after the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir were eliminated, Farooq Abdullah has questioned the success of Operation Mahadev. He asked why the security forces did not reveal the faces of the slain Pakistani terrorists so that they could be sure that they were the perpetrators.

Two months have passed since the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack were killed in a forest on the outskirts of Srinagar, but Farooq Abdullah, the president of the ruling National Conference party in Jammu and Kashmir, is now expressing doubts about the success of the security forces. At a time when the atmosphere has heated up with violence during protests demanding statehood for Ladakh and the National Conference is demanding the same for Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah has sparked a major controversy by questioning a statement made by the central government in Parliament. Because, the country’s Home Minister had announced in Parliament that the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were from The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organization of the Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). TRF had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Why were the faces of the four terrorists not shown?

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on April 22 raised questions about the killing of the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack. Abdullah said, “There was a special debate in the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor. Why were those four killed that day? And you did not even show their faces so that we could be sure that they were the same person.” Farooq made this statement at the launch of journalist Harinder Baweja’s book “They’ll Shoot You, Madam: My Life Through Struggle” The elimination of the terrorists was announced in Parliament.

It is noteworthy that on July 29, 2025, during the debate on Operation Sindoor in the current monsoon session, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had informed the Lok Sabha that in Operation Mahadev, a joint operation by the Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police, Suleman, Hamza Afghani and Jibran were killed in Dachigam Park on July 28. He said that these terrorists of the Lashkar-e-A category killed innocent civilians in the Bishran Valley. He also thanked the soldiers of 4 Para, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police on behalf of the Parliament and the entire nation for this success.

Omar corners Centre on Ladakh and Kashmir

It is noteworthy that at the same event where Farooq expressed doubts about the killing of the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack, his son and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier accused the Centre of breaking its promises to both Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “When you wanted Ladakh to participate in the Hill Council elections, you promised them the Sixth Schedule. Everyone knew that giving the Sixth Schedule to Ladakh was almost impossible. In the border areas with China on one side and Pakistan on the other, there is a need for massive security; the Sixth Schedule makes it impossible. Yet, you made this promise to participate in the elections.”

Terrorists kill three months after the Pahalgam attack

On April 22 this year, Pakistani terrorists brutally killed 26 innocent tourists in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam after asking them about their religion. One of the dead was a Nepalese tourist, while the rest were Indian nationals. Later, on the night of 6–7 May, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, destroying nine of their hideouts. On 28 July, Parliament was informed that the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack had been killed.
